On Sunday night, the Grafschaft Bentheim district police again found a dozen curfew violations.

According to their own information, the officials registered 35 cases in which the regulations were not complied with. Drivers and walkers were on the move for no good reason. The night before, 40 rapes were found. There were 22 on Christmas Eve; most of those affected left too late on their way home after visiting relatives, according to a police spokesman on Friday. Police said Saturday that anyone who is detained basically shows understanding. A fine is still imposed: it costs at least 150 euros to move around the streets despite the curfew.

Leave home only for one important reason

Since December 23, the roughly 140,000 residents of Grafschaft Bentheim have been allowed to leave their apartments, houses and properties between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. only for professional or medically necessary reasons. It is also allowed for a person to take a dog for a walk. As an exception, the curfew did not begin until 10 pm Christmas Eve.

According to Uwe Fietzek, there are more consequences in Bentheim County if the exit restriction doesn’t work. (12/22/2020) 2 min

Objective: people should reduce contacts

By restricting exit, the district wants people to reduce their contacts. The experience of other cities and countries has shown that the number of coronavirus infections could be reduced, according to the District home page. There is no way around stricter measures with an incidence value of more than 200, said district administrator Uwe Fietzek (non-party). In the district, the value on Wednesday was 216.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week. On Sunday, the value had fallen to 172.8.

The regulation applies until January 12

According to the Hannover Ministry of Health, it is the first time at the national level that a municipality in Lower Saxony has responded with a measure of this type to contain the corona pandemic. The new rule in Bentheim County applies until January 12.
