Just hours before VfL Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart on Sunday night (6pm), positive corona tests for Maximilian Arnold and Jerome Roussillon were announced. Three more players must be quarantined.

However, the game of “wolves” should take place against the newcomer. The VfL team, of course, is big enough. It is at least doubtful that excluding these five professionals actually avoids the risk of infection.

According to the club’s announcement on Sunday, the players have been in isolation since the afternoon of the previous day. Besides Arnold and Roussillon, these are “direct contacts” Maximilian Philipp, who last scored the goal in Munich (1: 2), Xaver Schlager and the young professional Tim Siersleben. This is a preventive measure that was carried out in coordination with the health department.

William in quarantine Tuesday

A few days ago, William’s corona infection became public. Later, Managing Director Jörg Schmadtke stated: “This case proved that the test system at VfL Wolfsburg works as it should.” The player behaved in an exemplary manner and had no contact with the rest of the team. However, now there were the other two corona cases.

So far only cancellations in second division

In this context, it is surprising that the Bundesliga match should be played. In the second and third leagues, several games have recently been canceled in comparable cases. Only in the First Division have all the games been played as planned this season.

Steffen still feels the aftermath

The issue affects VfL over and over again. With Arnold and Roussillon, the number of those who tested positive in the Bundesliga team rises to a total of seven. Marin Pongracic, Josip Brekalo, Kevin Mbabu and Renato Steffen have already survived crown infections and are back in the Bundesliga. However, Steffen recently reported that he was still feeling the aftermath of the disease.
