Crown: Opponents of the mask raise fears among parents and unsettle children

“If you ordered carbon dioxide to be introduced into the classroom until the children are poisoned, you would be personally responsible for this. It is no different than enforcing the mask requirement.”

At first Ralph Meyer, headmaster of an elementary school in Cloppenburg, Lower Saxony, had to deal with letters from parents like these. Then came a call from the police. “A couple of parents denounced me for duress.”

Meyer, 59, had not recognized the certificate for her son to be exempt from the mask requirement. An exact reason was missing, he says. In addition, several parents had presented such certificates, some from the same pediatrician, whose office is about 200 kilometers away. It does not recognize such certificates.

That’s why Director Meyer is now involved with the police, and is unwittingly involved in a dispute that could hardly be more bitter. Opponents of the mask, including concerned parents and teachers, but also “side thinkers”, crown deniers, conspiracy theorists, extremists and AfD supporters are increasingly mobilizing against nose and mouth coverings. They have chosen a new terrain for their protest actions, targeting a new audience. There are schools, students and parents.
