North Rhine-Westphalia wants to further toughen its crown measures. This was announced by Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) in Düsseldorf. Consequently, the state cabinet for the catering industry has introduced a mandatory curfew between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. The curfew applies in municipalities with 50 or more new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.
With the introduction of the curfew, the state implements a federal-state agreement. The Prime Minister and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) agreed on Wednesday to impose the corresponding measure on the catering sector. It remains to be seen whether the restriction will last: in Berlin, the administrative court had already overturned a curfew decided by the Senate on Friday.
“We expect a lot of people to do something,” Laschet said of Corona’s new measures. Cultural institutions in particular would be seriously affected in the coming weeks. But the recreation area must be restricted so that other facilities such as schools and kindergartens can remain open, Laschet said. “We have to make society aware that the situation is becoming more serious.” A total closure and crowded hospitals should be avoided.
In addition to the curfew, Laschet reaffirmed the resolutions for contact restrictions that are in effect in North Rhine-Westphalia from Sunday: according to this, for example, only up to five people from different households can meet in public as soon as the limit of 50 new infections in a district or a city without a district. per 100,000 inhabitants is exceeded in seven days.
North Rhine-Westphalia is acting more strictly than the rest of the state: the federal government and the prime minister had agreed on Wednesday a maximum of ten people.
