Stuttering start to the biggest vaccination campaign in history! The vaccine remains in short supply until June, even for high-risk groups.
BILD names the most important wrong decisions:
► 1. ERROR: The federal government has trusted the EU for too long. Hook: Brussels did nothing for months. Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands announced a vaccination alliance. They gave this up in favor of the EU.
The result: Germany lost valuable time.
► 2. ERROR: Germany ordered mainly in conjunction with the EU and obtained an additional 30 million doses of vaccines from Biontech domestically. Hook: The contract did not specify that the order would be delivered BEFORE or in parallel to the EU.
Result: Additional material only comes AFTER EU order!
► 3. ERROR: Parallel to the options for Biontech vaccines, the federal government should also have asked the American company Moderna (active ingredients of mRNA). Hook: There was no order! Moderna had significantly higher production capacities (including Switzerland). Only Christmas was ordered.

Consequence: We are behind in Moderna.
► 4. ERROR: In June it became clear: the Biontech vaccine is very effective. By then, at the latest, all mRNA vaccines (Biontech, Moderna) would have to be massively purchased. Others were busy: July 20: Great Britain (30 million. Cans); July 22: United States (up to 600 million); July 31: Japan (120 million); August 27: Hong Kong (ten million).
The official EU order came from Biontech on September 9 (200 million cans plus an option for another 100 million). On November 11 alone, 200 million cans were reordered.
The result: in the US, everyone who wants to will be vaccinated in early April. With us: not before the end of July!
► 5. ERROR: The federal government ignored the fact that manufacturers need to plan for safety through contracts to develop production capacity.
Consequence: we will run after the vaccine until summer.
