In Russia, non-working time ends: According to President Putin, tomorrow the industry will be able to return to work, but the governors should decide. The country had previously reported a record number of new infections.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the country’s day off has ended despite the drastic increase in the number of crown cases. “Starting tomorrow, May 12, the paid vacations that will apply throughout the country and in all economic sectors will end,” the head of state said in a televised speech. However, the fight against the crown pandemic was not yet over. Some restrictions are expected to remain.
Nonworking time was introduced in late March. Putin announced the relaxation a few days ago. Starting Tuesday, governors could decide which industrial companies in their region can return to work, he said. It is imperative to keep jobs and keep the economy going. However, employees would have to strictly adhere to hygiene standards.
Moscow announces easing
Moscow has already announced that tomorrow it will be possible to start working again on construction sites and industrial plants. Half a million people will return to work in the capital. There have been strict curfews for weeks. Anyone who has to go to work needs a special permit from the city.
Putin said other regions could follow Moscow’s example. Stores that do not sell groceries, hair salons, car dealerships, and most other service providers should remain closed. Conditions would have to gradually relax so that there was no second wave of infections.
Putin promised extensive financial aid to families with children. According to this, there should be a payment of more than 10,000 rubles (125 euros) for every child from three to 16 years old. Smaller companies in sectors affected by the crisis should be exempt from some taxes. People over 65 and with chronic illnesses should continue at home.
Daily record in infection numbers
Shortly before Putin’s announcement, Russia had set a daily record for new coronavirus infections. In the past 24 hours, more than 11,600 new cases have been registered, the responsible government commission said. More than half of them were found in Moscow. The total number of infected increased to more than 221,000; According to Johns Hopkins University, this is the fourth most cases worldwide.
However, the official number of 2,000 crown deaths in Russia is low compared to other severely affected countries. However, critics doubt that the death rate corresponds to reality. They explain this by stating that other causes of death, such as pneumonia, are mentioned on death certificates; only the clear deaths of Covid 19 are identified as such.
