How do the federal and state governments want to deal with the growing number of new corona infections? Together with Lower Saxony Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) and his colleagues from the federal states, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) advises today on how to proceed in the Corona crisis. According to the German press agency, there has already been a first decision: if you give false information about yourself in a restaurant, you will face a minimum fine of 50 euros. After the deliberations, Weil wants to speak publicly at a press conference. The exact time is still open. NDR.de will broadcast the press conference right now on a live stream.

Maximum limit of 25 people for private celebrations

The federal government began discussions with the proposal of a maximum limit for celebrations in private rooms for 25 participants. In public spaces, the limit must be a maximum of 50 participants, according to the draft federal resolution for deliberations via videoconference. Temporary bans on serving alcohol are also being considered. In general, the federal government advocates a regionally graded approach rather than blanket measures.

Disagreement before the interview

Especially in the discussion about the upper limit for the celebrations, there were already differences of opinion beforehand: the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) and the Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Malu Dreyer (SPD), spoke in favor. The Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig (SPD), is against it. Everyday problems like the number of participants in family celebrations do not have to be regulated at the national level, he said.

Do countries issue regulations?

It is not clear whether the maximum amounts specified for private parts should only apply if certain limit values are exceeded for new infections. The draft also says states would enact regulations on the number of festival participants if the number of 35 new infections per 100,000 residents in a district is exceeded in seven days. This means that the critical number of new infections for this regulation has yet to be negotiated at the conference.

Use of fever ambulances

Due to the expected flu epidemic in the fall and winter, the federal government also proposes the use of ambulances for fever. This is to prevent hospitals and medical practices from becoming overloaded.
