FFor the president of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Lothar Wieler, this is a “worrying situation”. The federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn (CDU), even warns of the moment “in which we lose control.” Health authorities recently reported 4,058 new corona infections in 24 hours. Germany is now back in acute crown crisis at the latest.
A new record since April was reported on Wednesday with 2,828 new infections. And the list of hot spots in the country is long. They are districts in which in one week the value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is exceeded.
Baden-Wuerttemberg
In the Esslingen district, this so-called incidence value is now 54.6. Therefore, the district is adjusting its requirements significantly. As of Friday, masks must be worn in public places such as the pedestrian zone or weekly markets if sufficient distance cannot be maintained. In addition, private celebrations are only allowed in public or rented rooms if a maximum of 25 people participate. No more than ten people are allowed to meet in private rooms.
The source of infection in Esslingen was a DHL freight center in the municipality of Köngen. Refugees living in nearby community shelters worked there. A total of at least 26 schools, five day care centers and nine refugee homes are also affected by outbreaks in the district. There are no known cases of nursing homes.
Stuttgart (38.4), Mannheim (37.3) and the urban district of Heilbronn (35.5) were more recently at least above the 35 new infections mark.
Sedan
In Berlin, the incidence value on Thursday was 52.8 and is therefore now above the critical limit of 50. There were 498 new infections in 24 hours, more than ever. Following the curfew that has been introduced for bars and restaurants, Berlin Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) does not rule out further restrictions, as he announced on Thursday.
Four districts of the capital tear even more clearly the mark of the problem in the incidence value.
Especially Neukölln. There were 114.3 new infections for every 100,000 people. Mitte, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg have also been hot spots for days. On Wednesday, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf was temporarily added – here the mark is now just 48.6. Steglitz-Zehlendorf then threatens to become an access point. Here the incidence value is 46.1.
Bremen
The city of Bremen exceeded the limit of 50 new corona infections for the first time on Wednesday. The health authorities announced. The value is 57.6. This means that stricter rules automatically apply in the Hanseatic city, even for private parties and large events.
Among other things, all events where alcohol is served are limited to a maximum of 25 participants. For events, some theater or readings, without serving alcohol, the limit is 100 participants. So far, there are upper limits of 250 indoors and 400 outdoors. The mask requirement should also be more stringent.
Hessen
In Frankfurt, the 7-day incidence has been 59.1 since Thursday, according to the city. The metropolis of the Main has thus reached the red climbing level for the state of Hesse. A curfew is expected between 11 pm and 6 am starting Friday; it was originally supposed to apply from 10 pm Frankfurt is thus reacting to the corresponding resolutions from the cities of Offenbach and Berlin.
According to the ministry, the incidence of Offenbach in 7 days is 51.3 new infections. The city of Offenbach itself spoke of 68.3 cases.
Lower saxony
The number of cases is also increasing in the district of Vechta: on Thursday 60.9 infections were reported there for every 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. Infections in a nursing home in the city of Vechta are responsible for this.
With the districts of Emsland and Wesermarsch, two other Lower Saxony regions passed the critical mark of 50 on Thursday. In Emsland this incidence value was 55.4 cases, in Wesermarsch it was 56.4 cases. The Oldenburg district is also approaching the critical mark with a value of 43.5. Schools in Delmenhorst will be closed on Friday.
North Rhine-Westphalia
The number of new corona infections in North Rhine-Westphalia continues to increase significantly. On Wednesday, the state health center reported a national incidence value of 25.4. According to the RKI, Hamm, Hagen and Remscheid, now considered hotspots, are particularly affected. According to their own information, Aachen-Stadt and Unna also exceed the 50 mark. Due to different channels and reporting times, RKI’s information for these areas is currently below the mark.
The situation is also explosive in Gladbeck, where the incidence is 87.2 according to “WAZ”. However, the city is counted as part of the Recklinghausen district and thus escapes the red list.
Rhineland-Palatinate
According to the ministry, most of the new infections occurred in the Neuwied district. There, 44 cases were registered for every 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. The district is scratching the hotspot threshold. On Tuesday this value was given as 36
