Bin: Schools are not hot spots or infection drivers

In the radio interview on NDR Info, Lower Saxony Education Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) did not rule out a general mask requirement in state schools. In case it is not possible to contain the numbers, according to the recommendation, the next step is the obligation to wear oral and nasal protection in class. Tonne pointed out again that schools were not hot spots or infection-causing in the corona pandemic.

8,685 new infections in Germany

According to the Robert Koch Institute, health authorities reported 8,685 new corona infections in one day. On Monday a week ago, the number of new infections in 24 hours was 4,325. Two days ago, 14,714 new infections had been reached, a new record since the start of the corona pandemic in Germany. According to the RKI, a total of 437,866 people across Germany have been infected with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus since the start of the pandemic. The number of deaths related to the virus rose 24 through Monday to a total of 10,056. The RKI estimates that around 321,600 people have recovered.

Lower Saxony: “pre-quarantine” for schoolchildren before Christmas?

According to a newspaper report, the Lower Saxony state government is considering closing schools two days before the start of the Christmas holidays due to the crown crisis. Instead, students must study at home. According to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” report, this should reduce the risk of children infecting their older relatives with the corona virus at Christmas. “If that is sufficient as a preventive quarantine, we will implement it,” said Education Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD). Coalition partner CDU had proposed the so-called pre-quarantine. According to the bin, the proposal is already being examined.

115 new infections in Schleswig-Holstein

115 new cases of corona have been reported in Schleswig-Holstein. The day before there were 142 new infections; however, during the weekend and at the beginning of the week, the numbers tend to be lower. According to the Robert Koch Institute, the number of new infections per 100,000 residents in the past seven days was 36.3 nationwide (0.00 on Monday).

Hamburg: stricter measures apply from today

In Hamburg, more stringent protection measures against the crown are now applied so that the risk of infection does not increase further. As of today, according to the decision made on Friday, a maximum of ten people from two households can meet in private and in public. Second Mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens) said: “We make heavy hearts with the knowledge of the consequences for many of those who are severely affected. But we cannot and we will not let things go.” There are only exceptions for mixed families and for children under the age of twelve. Therefore, it is possible to play together or a children’s birthday party at home, but according to the Senate, a maximum of ten.

MV: Tighter crown rules for two districts?

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, two districts are above the weekly critical value of 35 newly infected per 100,000 inhabitants: in the Rostock district there are currently 40 and in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district 37.6 people infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. The responsible authorities are discussing new measures today.

Lower Saxony: starting school without masks in the classroom

In Lower Saxony and Bremen, lessons start anew today for more than a million students. Unlike the neighboring state of North Rhine-Westphalia, now students are not required to wear a mask in class. However, the Ministry of Culture recommends that boys and girls from fifth grade do so if their school is in a Corona hotspot. Lower Saxony Culture Minister Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) wrote in a letter to students that was distributed over the weekend that he had asked teachers not to exert too much pressure at this time. “I have heard from some of you that there is a lot of class work and exams in schools right now. That should not be the case,” the minister wrote.

Mandatory break for amateur football in Hamburg

Starting today: stricter rules for Heligoland vacationers

Anyone who wants to enter the island of Heligoland as a tourist must have a negative corona test.

In the Corona crisis, the entry of tourists to Heligoland is difficult. As of today, only vacationers who have a negative corona test that has no more than 48 hours to enter the ship can enter, the responsible Pinneberg district said. Visitors from foreign risk areas would also have to go immediately to quarantine for five days and then take another test. Those who enter for work or family visits or who have a place of residence in Heligoland are excluded from the entry ban.
