Coronavirus in Germany: seven hot spots – different causes

Parts of Berlin are corona risk areas, and the critical limit value of 50 is broken in some places in NRW and Lower Saxony. The reasons for the high number of cases in the seven critical points are different: an overview.

Sedan

Health Minister Jens Spahn’s request was unmistakable: Berlin had to implement the applicable crown rules more strictly. “It’s not because of very few rules. It’s more a question of where the rules are enforced. And I think they are happening even more in some areas of this beautiful capital,” Spahn said. I couldn’t understand that big parties are possible and that there are restaurants where they look at you with a mask as if you were from the moon.

If you drive to the capital these days, you may find yourself in a crown risk area. According to the Robert Koch Institute, four districts now fall into this category: Mitte, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Neukölln. Here, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is well above the threshold of an average of 50 in seven days. For travelers from Berlin, this means: increased risk of infection and possibly quarantine upon return.

Why is Berlin not controlling the situation of the crown? Currently, the number of cases is increasing in many large cities. The situation in some districts of Berlin is extraordinary. The authorities see illegal parties and private celebrations with a lot of alcohol consumption as sources of contagion. During the weekend alone, photos of crowded party people appeared on Twitter again.

In an interview with the daily topics said Health Senator Dilek Kalayci of “a few who behave very selfishly.” Specifically, he talked about the night and party scene.

Neukölln District Mayor Martin Hikel spoke at rbb collect fines as directly as possible for violations of crown rules. “I think that would send important signals … then you would immediately notice that it also has a consequence. I think that is very important.” Government Mayor Michael Müller had already requested it. Regulatory authorities should be able to collect fines from restaurateurs immediately for rule violations and not just after a lengthy process.

In the evening, the Berlin Senate reacted and decided to toughen the rules. Starting Saturday, between 11 pm and 6 am all places “where you can buy alcohol” would have to remain closed, Justice Senator Dirk Behrendt said after a special session of the Senate. This applies, for example, to the mentioned bars and restaurants, supermarkets and newsagents in Berlin Spätis. Gas stations can only sell gasoline and parts during the period in question.

During the same period, there is also a “detour requirement” in public space. Meetings in parks or in public places, for example, must end at 11 p.m. Until 6 a.m., only a maximum of five people from different households or members of two households can meet outdoors.

Contact restrictions will also tighten for the rest of the day, as Müller said. In the private area, only a maximum of ten people can meet in closed rooms. So far, 25 participants are allowed. These were “major interventions”, which were necessary to avoid a complete block, Müller said. He called on the public to consistently implement Corona’s measures: “I ask everyone to help in all areas of life.”

Due to the escalating situation of the crown in Berlin, tourists should not be recruited at the moment. The capital has therefore temporarily halted all advertising campaigns, said Visit Berlin managing director Burkhardt Kieker, the rbb.

Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia

The example of the city of Hamm in North Rhine-Westphalia shows what a big, out-of-control event can accomplish in Crown times. A wedding in early September at various venues, with more guests than allowed and poorly or not filled participant lists, led Hamm to become the city with the highest rate of new infections in all of Germany.

The result: contact restrictions and private parties with more than 25 guests must register again. In schools, the mask requirement also applies in lessons. Although there are now slightly fewer corona cases, the RKI still reports an average of 94.4 new infections for Hamm in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, almost double the threshold of 50, after which the restrictions of contact and the strictest crown measurements in Force should kick.

Remscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia

While the extremely high number of corona infections in Hamm can be traced back to a “super spread event”, Remscheid authorities can only speculate why the town of Bergisches Land became a hotspot for the crown. A total of 578 infections were reported in Remscheid on Tuesday, and there were 63.1 new infections per 100,000 residents in the past seven days. The threshold of 50 set by politicians and experts has been exceeded for more than two weeks. The health department and the city administration are betting on those who have returned home, who then carried the virus into the community through kindergartens and schools. But this is nothing more than an evidence-based assumption. And obviously, the infection rate is not limited to these two places: because in both Wuppertal and Solingen, the other two big cities in Bergisches Land, the number of infections is increasing again.

Vechta District

The Vechta district in Lower Saxony is also one of the hot spots in the German crown. The 50 limit was expected to be broken there after an outbreak in a nursing home. On Friday, the Lower Saxony municipality announced that 31 residents and 19 employees at one house had tested positive. Those infected have now been housed separately from other residents.

The nursing home is subject to an admission freeze and a visitation ban until further notice. All residents and employees should be tested for the corona virus every other day. Staff can only work with a medical protective mask (FFP2) and in areas related to residents. In addition, a dementia ward belonging to the house, which until now has not had a crown, will be organizationally separated from the house.

According to the head of the Vechta health department, Sandra Guhe, the exact cause of the outbreak has not yet been determined. “The priority now is the care of those infected and the delimitation of the infection process, in which all close contacts are identified and quarantined.”

According to the district administrator Herbert Winkel, initially no further restrictions on public life were planned in the region, as the corona bud can be clearly located. The CDU politician called on all residents of the district to refrain from large-scale celebrations and meetings. A Sunday purchase in Vechta scheduled for October 4 was canceled.
