Coronavirus: demonstration against corona measures intensified in Prague

During protests against the Czech government’s anti-crown measures, violent riots broke out in Prague on Sunday. First, despite the Crown’s restrictions, thousands of protesters gathered in Prague’s Old Town, some without the necessary distance and without masks. Including numerous radical soccer and ice hockey fans from the ultra scene.

The organizers ended the meeting in the city center after about an hour. Then there were clashes between violent hooligans and the security forces.
According to the Czech authorities, the police officers were attacked for no reason. Smoke bombs and fireworks were detonated. Police confiscated truncheons and firearms after personal checks. The balance at the end of the day: 20 policemen were injured, around 50 people were arrested.

The number of new coronavirus infections in the Czech Republic has increased rapidly recently. At the end of last week, with more than 11,000 new cases, a record was reached in 24 hours. So far, more than 170,000 coronavirus infections and more than 1,400 deaths have been recorded in the EU member state of around 10.7 million inhabitants.
