The Robert Koch Institute recorded 7,556 new corona infections and 560 deaths in 24 hours. The seven day incidence is 57. Most federal states have decreasing seven day incidence.
German health authorities reported 7,556 new coronavirus infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in one day. The RKI also recorded 560 new deaths in 24 hours.
Exactly a week ago, the RKI reported 8,072 new infections and 813 deaths. These numbers include around 600 late reports of new infections from North Rhine-Westphalia that were missing the day before. The number of new infections is stagnating.
On January 14, the peak of 1,244 recently reported deaths was reached. For new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reached on December 18 at 33,777, but it contained 3,500 late reports.
The seven-day incidence is falling
The number of new infections reported in seven days per 100,000 residents (seven-day incidence) was 57.0 nationwide on Wednesday morning, according to the RKI. Four weeks ago, on January 17, the incidence had been 136. Its previous peak was reached on December 22 at 197.6.
Most federal states continue to see a seven-day drop in incidents, according to the RKI. Thuringia currently has the highest value with 111.6. The seven-day incidence is lowest in Baden-Württemberg at 43.6.
The seven-day R-value is 0.84
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI has tallied 2,350,399 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany (as of February 17, 04:36 am). The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher as many infections go undetected. The total number of people who died from a documented infection with Sars-CoV-2 increased to 66,164.
According to RKI’s situation report on Tuesday evening, the seven-day R-value nationwide was 0.84 (previous day 0.86). This means that, in theory, 100 infected people infect 84 more people. The value represents the appearance of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
