Contact restrictions, ghost games, restaurants closed: The federal and state governments decided on the new crown rules on Wednesday, differing from the strict lock in spring only in a few points. Unlike the previous measures, schools and nurseries, for example, should remain open as much as possible. In sport and gastronomy, however, strict rules apply again. That is why restaurants have to close and sporting events have to do without spectators. Contact with other people is severely restricted.
The additional measures will take effect nationwide on Monday and will apply until the end of November, as will the Chancellor.
Angela Merkel declared at the end of the deliberations. After two weeks, the restrictions will be checked and reinforced if necessary. Merkel justified the sometimes severe cuts with the sharp increase in the number of infections. If it continues like this, “the health system will reach its limits,” he said. A “national health emergency” must be avoided. “That means that the curve has to flatten again,” warned the CDU politician. So now “a national effort” is needed. He admitted that these were “harsh and burdensome measures.”
Coronavirus in Germany: almost 15,000 new infections in one day
The Prime Minister of Bavaria
Markus Söder He spoke of a “difficult day that we will all remember for a long time.” There is no alternative to hard cuts, the CSU chief said. “The longer we wait, the more difficult it gets,” he emphasized and explained: “What we have done so far is not enough. We have to do more ”. This especially applies to reducing contacts. Now he has a chance to “get through the winter well,” says Söder.
In Bavaria, the cabinet wants to talk about the implementation of the measures this Thursday. Only then should a decision be made in Augsburg on whether further action can be taken. The seven-day incidence value in the city was 224 on Wednesday, and thus well above the “dark red” warning level at the Bavarian crown traffic light.
The Robert Koch Institute on Wednesday reported a record nearly 15,000 new infections. The doubling rate increased rapidly and is significantly higher than in spring. At the same time, contact tracing is becoming increasingly difficult, as Merkel emphasized. Therefore, citizens should only be able to meet outside with one other household and a maximum of ten people. Therefore, celebrations in apartments are “unacceptable”.
The federal government promises new financial aid in the crown crisis
Thousands of people from the event industry, who fear for their economic existence, demonstrated in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The federal and state governments promised new financial aid to you, the cultural sector, and other sectors of the economy. Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) promised to replace 75 percent of its turnover in companies affected by the closure with up to 50 employees. Companies that are allowed to continue working must implement hygiene concepts and allow their employees to work from home “wherever possible”.
The opposition parties in the Bundestag had previously insisted on the proportionality of the measures. It is questionable why one wants to close the restaurant, where the virus spreads only to a small extent, said FDP chief Christian Lindner. CDU member Felix Schreiner spoke out against restaurant closures: “This particular industry has suffered particularly in recent months, but it has also faced an immense race to catch up with smart and safe concepts. . ” The leader of the left-wing parliamentary group Dietmar Bartsch accused the people’s federal and state governments “directly adrift into private space,” where most infections occur. The Greens called for the participation of Parliament. The restriction of civil liberties needs a public discourse and an anchor in parliament, said Britta Haßelmann MEP.
