Those under 60 years of age should receive one dose of Biontech / Pfizer or Moderna vaccine instead of the second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine after twelve weeks.
Meanwhile, the head of the Permanent Commission on Vaccination, Thomas Mertens, commented on the changing recommendations of his panel of experts regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine in “Spiegel”. “The Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI) responsible for monitoring safety in Germany had recognized a very clear signal to which STIKO had to react,” Mertens said.

The federal government decided on Tuesday to inoculate the AstraZeneca vaccine only to people over 60 years of age. The background for this is thrombosis, particularly among younger women. Younger people in vaccination groups one and two could “decide, together with the vaccinating physician, at the physician’s discretion and with an individual risk analysis after detailed information, whether they want to be vaccinated with AstraZeneca,” the decision said.
