Buying corona vaccines is becoming a global race for sera. More than a dozen US states fear a smaller delivery of corona vaccines than initially expected. According to the New York Times, a total of 14 states are affected by lower delivery volumes, including California, New Jersey and Michigan. Washington State Governor Jay Inslee said: “We need accurate and predictable numbers to plan and ensure success on the ground.”
General Gustave Perna is the one in the United States who is supposed to make sure that the vaccine reaches the people. According to the BBC broadcaster, it has now admitted that the number of doses initially promised for individual states cannot be kept. He said he was “personally responsible for the lack of communication” with the governors. The number of cans you delivered based on what you thought was ready.
“I’m the one who approved the forecast sheets. I’m the one who approved the assignments, ”he said. And: “I failed. I will correct myself ”. He denied fears that there could be fundamental problems with the distribution of the vaccine. There is also no problem with the US-approved vaccines from Biontech and Pfizer, on the one hand, and those from the American pharmaceutical company Moderna, on the other.
United States begins distribution of Moderna vaccine
Germany is still awaiting the first European approval of a corona vaccine. Meanwhile, the federal government and the EU are also under pressure because they apparently haven’t gotten enough vaccines so far. According to information from SPIEGEL, the federal government had relied on the EU purchasing policy. This, in turn, had rejected hundreds of millions of doses of vaccine, apparently also to keep orders from manufacturers in different EU countries balanced.
Finally, there were also legal concerns in Germany regarding the distribution ordinance of the Federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn. In it, the CDU politician regulates, without parliamentary participation, that people over 80 years of age, as well as residents and staff of nursing homes, have the highest priority. Healthcare workers at very high risk of infection, for example in intensive care units and emergency rooms, also have “top” priority.
In the US, the first doses of the vaccine are delivered on the weekend just one day after the emergency approval of the drug Moderna. “Distribution of the Moderna vaccine has begun,” said Perna, who heads the US government’s “Warp Speed” vaccine project. The first trucks left a factory in Bloomington, Indiana, where the Catalent company is filling vials of Moderna vaccine on Saturday.
The FDA had issued an emergency approval for the vaccine Friday night. It is the first approval of the active ingredient Moderna in the world. “With the availability of two corona vaccines, the FDA has taken another decisive step in the fight against this pandemic,” said FDA Chief Stephen Hahn. In the United States, more than 17.5 million of the 76 million confirmed infections worldwide had occurred since the pandemic began.
