Hope for the parents of Germany!
Chancellor Angela Merkel (66, CDU) has offered the prospect of a long-term strategy for schools and kindergartens in light of the decline in the number of corona infections.
The Chancellor would like to launch such a strategy on Wednesday during consultations with the Prime Minister. He announced it on Monday during the CDU presidium’s online consultations, as reported by participants.
At the same time, however, he also emphasized that the infection numbers will need to decline again in the next two weeks. Merkel called for caution regarding relaxation.
The mutation worries Merkel
According to participants, the Chancellor noted that the wave of infections has been broken, but no federal state has yet fallen below the figure of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week. Apparently, Merkel is also concerned about the very slow decline in the R value.
Merkel expressed concern about the B.1.351 variant of the virus circulating in South Africa, which also reaches Germany through Great Britain. Many states, including the Federal Republic, have restricted entry from South Africa.
► According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence on Monday morning was 76. According to RKI’s situation report on Sunday evening, the seven-day R-value nationwide was 0, 94 (previous day 0.95).
It means: 100 infected people infect 94 more people. The value represents the onset of the infection eight to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
Health Minister Jens Spahn (40, CDU) noted after this information in the presidium change that the number of occupied intensive care beds was decreasing, but still above a critical level.
