Corona rules: who can we celebrate Christmas with now – internal politics

Silent night, lonely night?

As of Wednesday the harsh blockade arrives and the whole of Germany wonders: What will become of our Christmas party?

According to information from BILD, it was just decided at the Corona summit at the Foreign Ministry:

Besides your own home, you can invite four more people for Christmas, but only from close family members!

This includes: spouses, civil partners and partners in a domestic relationship, as well as heterosexual relatives, siblings, siblings and their respective household members.

Previous planning stipulated that Germans could spend the holidays with up to ten people. Most federal states had already revoked this relaxation, which was scheduled for late November.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has now made an appeal: “If you invite other family members to come to you at Christmas,” the Germans should be careful to cut back on contacts in time.

Therefore, there should be a so-called “protection week”. Means: keep contacts to an absolute minimum in the five to seven days before family reunions.

Christmas services “are only possible under strict conditions,” Merkel said. “We are going to have conversations with the churches about this.” The Federal Ministry of the Interior will take care of that.

There will be NO relaxation on New Year’s Eve, the chancellor said Sunday morning.
