reAccording to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), health authorities reported 8,685 new corona infections in one day early Monday morning. Experience has shown that the number of cases on Sundays and Mondays is lower, also because fewer tests are carried out on weekends. On Monday a week ago, the number was 4,325.

14,714 new infections were reached on Saturday, a new record since the start of the pandemic in Germany. The death toll surpassed 10,000 over the weekend.

According to the RKI, a total of 437,866 people across Germany have been infected with the virus since the pandemic began. The number of deaths related to the virus rose 24 through Monday to a total of 10,056. The RKI estimates that around 321,600 people have recovered.

R value about 1.5

The number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.45 in Germany according to the RKI situation report on Sunday (previous day: 1.36). This means that 10 infected people infect almost 15 other people. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier.

In addition, the RKI gives the so-called seven-day R in its management report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. This value was 1.39 on Saturday (previous day: 1.38). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
