reGerman health authorities reported 31,300 new infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in one day. That comes from RKI’s information from Saturday morning. There was a peak of 33,777 infections reported on Friday, but it included about 3,500 cases reported the day before. As of Saturday of last week, the figure was 28,438.

Health authorities also reported 702 new deaths in one day. The previous high of 952 deaths was reached on Wednesday. The number of daily deaths has tended to rise recently, which was expected after the sharp increase in new infections. The total number of people who died from a proven Covid-19 infection or with a proven infection rose to 25,640.

Seven-day incidence in nearly 190

The number of new infections reported to health authorities in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (incidence of seven days) was given by the RKI on Saturday at 189.6. This is the highest level since the pandemic began.

In total, the Robert Koch Institute has counted 1,471,238 infections detected with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. Around 1,085,500 people are estimated to have recovered.

According to RKI’s management report on Friday, the national seven-day R-value was 1.05 (previous day: 0.97). This means that, in theory, 100 infected people infect 105 more people. The value represents the onset of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
