Federal police at Frankfurt Airport are intensifying controls on flights from high-risk areas starting today. Above all, input records and proof of a current negative corona test are checked.
Federal police are tightening controls at Frankfurt Airport starting today to prevent the coronavirus from spreading further. In particular, flights from 32 of the so-called high-risk areas are “constantly monitored,” federal police said.
Directly on the aircraft and prior to actual border control, a check is conducted to see if passengers could present a current negative corona test and have completed the entry forms. In Frankfurt today, 17 flights from five countries are expected to be affected. According to the federal police, all measures will be carried out in close coordination with the health authorities, the Hessian state police, the airport operator and the airlines concerned.
Apparently more officials at Munich airport
According to information from “Spiegel”, the federal police are also mobilizing many more officers at Munich airport in order to control all landing passengers.
According to the federal police, the additional measures are intended to identify travelers who must be quarantined immediately.
Significantly more countries classified as high risk areas
The federal government had previously classified many more countries than before as high-risk areas to protect against the introduction of new corona cases into Germany. What is particularly new is the list of countries in which the so-called 7-day incidence exceeds 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week (Germany currently: 115). However, other countries can also be declared high incidence areas under this mark under certain conditions.
The countries of origin affected by the orders can be found on the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) website. The category that will apply from today includes Spain, Portugal, the USA, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Egypt. Anyone who wants to enter from there should be able to show a negative corona test (PCR test) on the edge.
All travelers from these countries are required to undergo a corona test prior to departing for Germany and are only allowed to enter Germany with proof of a current negative result. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, tests are systematically controlled at airports and seaports. At land borders with other EU countries where there are no border controls, travelers must be screened randomly and regardless of suspicion.
Special regulation for the entry of travelers from the Czech Republic in force
After the Czech Republic was classified as a high-risk area, Saxony reacted with a special regulation for commuters arriving at work: the state issued exemptions from the stricter testing requirement for cross-border travelers. According to a general decree, people who travel to Saxony for work only need to be tested for the corona virus twice a week. The test is also possible only after entry, but it must be done before starting work. For the exception, those affected must be able to show a valid employment contract when entering.
The reason for the step was that many people from the Czech Republic work in Saxony, according to the State Chancellery, more than 10,000. This is to ensure the “functionality” of the businesses in the border region.
