Berlin – Two crown traffic lights are red for Berlin! Now the city government is tightening the reins. Public life is restricted again.

The red-red-green Senate imposes a night curfew for the party capital!

Due to the sharp increase in corona infections, most shops, as well as all restaurants and bars in Berlin, will have to close from 11 pm to 6 am in the future.

Exceptions are provided for pharmacies and gas stations, but the latter are also not allowed to sell alcohol at night.

Tighter contact restrictions

▶ ︎ Only five people or people from two households can meet outdoors from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

▶ ︎ There are also restrictions for private parties and gatherings! In closed rooms, only a maximum of 10 people are allowed to participate instead of the previous 25 people.

The measures are mainly aimed at private celebrations and illegal parties, which the Berlin authorities see as the drivers of the infection process.

Measurements from Saturday

Justice Senator Dirk Behrendt (Greens) said the measures will run from midnight on Saturday until October 31. Then it will be seen if they have been successful or if more are needed.

The range of fines has also been increased and now starts at 5,000 euros. Behrendt also encouraged districts to close if the rules were repeatedly violated.

“Fiery people”

Government Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) had already discussed these measures on Monday. “If we don’t act now, we will end up locked up again,” said Müller of the RBB “Abendschau”.

He criticized “party-crazy people” in some of the city’s parks. “There are a few hundred who are jeopardizing our success for the entire urban community in recent months,” Müller said.

If the situation in large cities cannot be contained, the result could again be contact restrictions at the national level. “We want and have to avoid a shutdown and then a curfew or an alcohol ban should be a possibility.”

Health Senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) had already called for an overnight alcohol ban on the weekend.
