A new record every day: The current one is also related to a failure in the transmission of data between health authorities, state authorities and the Robert Koch Institute. Now it should be fixed.
The number of new coronavirus infections in Germany has reached a new record. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), health authorities reported 14,714 new cases of corona in one day.
However, since there were occasional data gaps in the transmission of infection figures on Thursday, the latest number of new infections could include corresponding late reports.
Delay in filing the case
According to RKI, transmissions from health authorities to responsible state authorities and from them to RKI were interrupted for almost three hours on Thursday afternoon due to a web server failure. But then the server started working again. The missing data should have automatically transmitted on Friday during the day and therefore appear in the post on Saturday morning.
The size of the data gap was unknown initially. Corona’s hotspots in North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, were affected by the breakdown.
On Thursday and Friday, the RKI announced daily new registered infections of more than 11,000 cases each, these were the previous highs since the beginning of the pandemic. Without the technical breakdown, the institute would have determined an even higher value on Friday, reducing the number now published.
More than 10,000 dead
According to the RKI, a total of 418,005 people in Germany were infected with the virus (as of October 24, 00:00). The death toll also surpassed the 10,000 threshold: Since the start of the pandemic, 10,003 people have died in connection with a corona infection. That’s 49 more than the day before.
The number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.23 in Germany according to the RKI situation report on Friday (previous day: 1.11). This means that ten infected people infect about twelve more people. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier. In addition, the RKI includes the so-called seven-day R in its management report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value is now 1.30 (previous day: 1.23). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
Advice on new measures
On Thursday, the RKI called the crown situation in Germany “very serious.” The latest new infections recorded are clearly above the spring highs. However, there was also less testing at that time.
The heads of government of the federal states will possibly deal with a further tightening of the corona measures currently in force at their regular meeting next Friday.
