MV: Corona generates a record number of citizen complaints

Corona’s protection measures, partly controversial, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have given state ombudsman Matthias Crone an entry record. It received more than 2,000 inquiries and complaints in the year that ended, about 13 percent more than the previous year. Almost 400 of the requests were related to crown restrictions. In the spring, foreigners were banned from using their own second home or gardens in the country. Some also would have wanted to take care of urgent visits or treatments. “Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania went its own way with its special restrictions, which were not always understandable to those affected. In some cases, legal adjustments were made and the state government acted on some points as well,” Crone said. As an example, he cited the visiting rules in effect for nursing home residents. The complete isolation of spring caused great emotional distress for many older people.

Bovenschulte: Corona has exacerbated social inequality

The mayor of Bremen, Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD), believes that after the end of the crown pandemic, a debate on the fair sharing of the burden is necessary. The issue will certainly also play a role in the election campaign for the fall federal elections, Bovenschulte said. “I hope that in the summer, through the combination of the season, vaccinations, improved contact tracking and protection mechanisms, the problem of the pandemic has been relativized at least to the extent that our daily life”. Then you have to talk about the economic and social consequences and how the burdens are distributed fairly. The crown crisis has exacerbated social inequality in Germany. “There are corporate sectors that have gone through the crisis brilliantly and there are others that have been severely affected.” This raises the question of whether it makes sense to treat all industries equally.

GEW demands alternative perspective and instruction

The Education and Science Union (GEW) insists on an early decision on how to proceed in schools starting January 10. He urged that as the pandemic progresses, more emphasis should be placed on alternating classes. It is foreseeable that the blocking measures will have to extend beyond the holidays, GEW chief Marlis Tepe told Germany’s publishing network. Therefore, teachers, students and parents need early information about what is coming. Tepe emphasized: “The social imperative to avoid contacts as much as possible must also be implemented in schools.”
