How much is the crown crisis loading on the labor market?

The Federal Employment Agency today announced its statistics for January. For the first time, the effects of the tightening of the crown’s protection measures, which tightened in December, are included in the labor market figures. Economists expect a significantly higher number of unemployed than in December. At that time, the Federal Agency established the number of unemployed nationwide at 2.707 million, which corresponds to a rate of 5.9 percent. In January, an increase in the number of unemployed is normal for the season. In the first month of last year, almost 200,000 more people were looking for work than in December 2019.

The EMA decides today on the AstraZeneca vaccine

The European Medicines Agency today announced its decision on the crown vaccine from the manufacturer AstraZeneca. If I were to recommend the drug, approval by the EU Commission would be purely a matter of form. In the European Union, only Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are allowed so far. AstraZeneca’s vaccine would be the third product approved in the EU. It has the advantage that it is significantly cheaper and easier to store than the other preparations. However, there is a dispute with the EU over the agreed delivery quantities. Therefore, the company now wants to disclose parts of its supply contract.

GEW issues bad Lower Saxony educational certificates

At the end of the first half of the school year in Lower Saxony, the GEW education union issued a bad Corona certificate to the state government in Hannover. The Corona crisis made “educational misery more visible than ever,” criticized GEW country manager Laura Pooth. “Politically responsible people in Lower Saxony sometimes tried very hard during the crisis.” But that is not enough. The federal government, state and local authorities should jointly create a bailout package worth billions for education, according to the GEW lawsuit. In a semi-annual report on coping with the Crown crisis in the education sector, “Transfer at risk,” he warned. Finally, money from the state fund “Corona” should be available to educational institutions. School employees are overburdened due to staff shortages and the protection of their health is still not guaranteed in many places.

Twelve suspected cases of mutated coronavirus in VM

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there are indications of the British crown B.1.1.7 mutation for the first time. According to the Ministry of Health, there are twelve positive laboratory results nationwide. “It is clear that our state probably will not get rid of the mutations,” said Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU). Seven of the references to the mutation come from the northwestern Mecklenburg district, three refer to Ludwigslust-Parchim and two from the Rostock district. To confirm the mutations, laboratory samples outside Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are re-examined in more detail using so-called full sequencing. When the results will be available is open.

MV: Violation of contact rules – process

At the Neubrandenburg district court this morning, several people have to answer for violations of the crown’s contact bans. These are three incidents since spring 2020. Since the defendants filed an objection to the fines imposed by the law enforcement office, the first frequent civil lawsuits are now taking place in the district court. In the first case, it is said that young people gathered in greater numbers at a gas station, which was not allowed at the time due to the pandemic. In the second case, three suspects from different households are said to have barbecued together. In the third case, police found four people from various households in an apartment in April, where they were apparently celebrating a birthday. Those affected should generally pay a fine of about 150 euros for it. Regulatory authorities hope that the outcome of these procedures will also provide information on how violations and fines are handled under current restrictions.

Not all clinics provide FFP2 masks to staff

FFP2 masks can significantly reduce the risk of corona infection. However, they are not taken for granted in the clinical field. The Kiel city hospital spends around € 80,000 more a month to provide its employees with such a mask every day. In the University Hospital of all places, however, there are only so many simple surgical masks.
