Doctors call for Christmas services to be banned

Medical officials have called for a national ban on Christmas services. Face-to-face religious services on the holidays should be prohibited by the federal and state governments due to the risk of coronavirus, said the president of the Federal Association of Physicians in the Public Health Service, Ute Teichert, the newspapers of the Funke media group. The Sars-CoV-2 virus is known to be easily transmitted during religious services. Therefore, “no additional risk should be taken”. The Catholic Church in Germany announced earlier in the week that it wanted to hold on to Christmas services, but hygiene concepts and protective measures had to be strictly adhered to, Berlin Archbishop Heiner Koch demanded on behalf of the German Episcopal Conference. The Protestant Church in Westphalia had previously urgently recommended that its congregations refrain from all assistance services for the time being.

Dehoga MV: “2021 will also be a very, very difficult year”

The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) has warned of too high expectations for tourism and gastronomy next year. That applies even if Vaccinations against the coronavirus could begin as planned and without major difficulties. “The year 2021 will be a very, very difficult year for us,” said association president Lars Schwarz of the German press agency. Consider that, even if things are going well, it will take until the third trimester for enough people to get vaccinated to be able to talk about enough trips. In the hotel industry, there were losses of up to a third compared to 2019, Schwarz estimates. But that’s just an average, because the organizers, clubs or discos have hardly been able to generate sales. For many restaurants and pubs, it is true that the good summer season has saved a lot.

Visits to nursing homes in Hamburg only with negative test

As of today, visits to Hamburg nursing homes and nursing homes are only possible if a negative corona test is presented. The red-green Senate decided yesterday that visitors should test accordingly. Residents of healthcare centers are at particular risk. Therefore, it should be ruled out that visitors carry an infection indoors, said the health authority. To avoid difficulties during Christmas, an exception rule applies until December 28: if rapid tests cannot be performed on the premises, visits are still possible if residents and visitors wear an FFP2 mask at all times and adhere strictly to hygiene concepts. The exception should only be used with caution and in emergencies.
