Other districts of Lower Saxony are constantly sliding down the list of those that have exceeded the critical values of corona. The Hannover and Delmenhorst region reacted with new rules.
In all of Lower Saxony, the incidence value is now 35.1 and therefore above the first critical limit of 35. The state announced on Monday. In addition, in the last seven days there have been 36.5 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the Hannover region. Here too the first critical value is exceeded. The region held talks with the mayors of the municipalities earlier in the week and decided on new measures. Regional President Hauke Jagau (SPD) called on citizens to take greater personal responsibility: “By voluntarily wearing mouth and nose protection, we can all contribute to protection against infection.”
These are the new crown measures in the Hannover region
- a maximum of 25 people for private meetings and celebrations in private rooms
- a maximum of 50 people for private meetings and celebrations in catering establishments
- Mandatory mask requirements within traffic areas in all companies and public facilities where people work, for example, in corridors and at meeting points. This does not apply to schools and nurseries where the respective hygiene concepts still apply.
- greater controls to ensure compliance with the hygiene measures applicable in catering establishments
- Prohibition of using local public transport without protection for the mouth and nose.
- Appeal to voluntarily wear a mask in public spaces. The region is also studying the possibility of introducing a general mask requirement in public spaces.
Strong increase even without a specific major outbreak
The Hannover region is also a long way from the highest risk threshold, that is, an incidence of 50 in seven days, for now. However, unlike in recent months, a new development appears to be emerging: the infection rate is also constantly increasing in places where there have been no specific major outbreaks, for example in a slaughterhouse or care facility.
Delmenhorst: Mayor Jahnz announces new measures
It’s exactly the same at Delmenhorst: the seven-day incidence has risen to 223.1. Even there, this cannot be attributed to a specific company or event. “According to the health department, no special local assignments can be found in the infection figures in Delmenhorst,” the city said. Delmenhorst has also reacted with stricter rules on securities announced by Mayor Axel Jahnz (SPD) at a press conference on Monday.
Incidence values locally greater than 100
Several areas have already exceeded the warning threshold of 50 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. In the Cloppenburg district the value is almost 160, in the Northeim district it is also over 100, as is the case in the Vechta district. According to the state, the incidence exceeded 50 on Monday in the districts of Emsland, Grafschaft Bentheim, Osnabrück. Therefore, they are considered risk areas. The lowest risk value of 35 was surpassed by the districts of Celle, Oldenburg, Nienburg, Verden, the city of Osnabrück and, as mentioned, the Hannover region.

Epidemiologist Krause: The elderly are more affected again
“We are seeing an increase in diseases, we are also seeing a change in the average age,” Gérard Krause, chief epidemiologist at the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research in Braunschweig, said Sunday in the NDR regional magazine Hallo Niedersachsen. “The older age groups are more affected now than they were two months ago. This is what is really causing concern.”
Ministry of Health announces stricter rules
Now what? Is it getting out of control? The state of Lower Saxony as a whole is above the 35 mark, even with a seven-day incidence of 35.1 on Monday. “The general increase in the number of infections is really worrying,” said Health Minister Carola Reimann (SPD). According to the ministry, the rules will be tightened shortly. The Lower Saxony state government recently emphasized several times that a second store and business closures should be avoided due to serious economic consequences. If possible, always prefer the “softer” variant, he said Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) on “World” (Monday edition).

Because: Stronger measures have stricter side effects
“Better curfew than closed bars and restaurants,” believes Weil, who would have welcomed the accommodation ban as a mild measure, but which was overturned by the court. When that happens, “we automatically end up with stricter measures. So, of course, they also have a stronger effect, including much bigger side effects,” Weil told the newspaper. The curfew is also on the brink, in Berlin it has no longer resisted a court order.
Clear words: “We will implement the curfew”
After federal and state inquiries, new crown rules you must first understand, and patchwork rugs discussions, Weil now found unmistakable words. “Like all other outcomes of the Berlin conference, we will implement the point-by-point curfew in Lower Saxony and, in case of doubt, we will enter into the necessary legal procedures,” he told the “Welt”. “Curfews are a much softer means than closing restaurants and bars. We don’t want them. And I hope that in the end we won’t be forced to close precisely these.” In addition, the country will reduce the number of participants allowed in private parties.
