The health authorities in Schleswig-Holstein informed the state of 529 new infections (as of Thursday evening, December 10). On Thursday a week ago (December 3) there was not even half.

This is the highest value the state registry office has recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. According to statistics, a total of 17,094 people have been shown to have been infected with the Sars-Cov2 coronavirus. According to an estimate by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 13,200 are considered recovered. 283 deaths are according to this Statistics from the state registry office in relation to the viral disease Covid-19, seven more than the previous day. Based on these data, the seven-day incidence for Schleswig-Holstein is 67.8.

Currently, 132 people are hospitalized for Covid-19, four more than the previous day. 25 patients with Covid-19 are in intensive care (-3), 15 patients need ventilation. The previous high was in Schleswig-Holstein on April 5. At that time, a total of 162 patients were treated in clinics.

Three municipalities above 100

The Stormarn district health department reported most of the new infections in the country on Thursday, with 138 more cases added there alone. The seven-day incidence in Stormarn is therefore 115.5. The Pinneberg district recorded nearly 100 more infections. According to the state registry office, around 108 people per 100,000 residents have been shown to have been infected in the past seven days. In Lübeck, the incidence value is 103.9, in the state capital, Kiel, it is 98.5, that is, just below the warning threshold of 100.

Tighter crown measurements in Kiel and Pinneberg

The Kiel city administration decided on Thursday to tighten the crown’s measures. Starting on Saturday, a maximum of five people from a maximum of two households can meet privately and in public. “Children up to 14 years old are not exempt from this,” says the city. In the Pinneberg district, where tougher contact restrictions have been in place since early December, children up to 14 years old are exempt from this rule.

In addition to Kiel, the city of Neumünster and the districts of Herzogtum-Lauenburg, Dithmarschen, Segeberg and Rendsburg-Eckernförde have an incidence value of more than 50. There, the mask requirement also applies to primary school children.

The map below shows the utilization of intensive care units in Schleswig-Holstein, summarized at the district and urban district level. If you select a region (tap or click), you will find out exactly how busy you are there and receive information on how many corona patients are being treated in intensive care and how many are being ventilated. Note the status of the date in the table. Due to delays in the notification process, the information provided by the clinics or the DIVI intensive care registry may differ.

Evolution of the number of corona cases in Schleswig-Holstein

Risk area of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants

The infection rate is very different in the districts and urban districts of Schleswig-Holstein. A district or independent city is considered a risk area if the threshold of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is exceeded within seven days. This value is very dynamic and changes every day with new information on reported infections. Some districts and urban districts of Schleswig-Holstein have reached or are close to this critical threshold, which is why the state government reacted by adapting the measures after consulting with Chancellor Angela Merkel and state prime ministers. According to state calculations, 9 of the 15 independent districts and cities in the state exceed this limit and are therefore considered a risk area.

On the map below you can see the infection rate in the counties of the five northern German states. Figures are based on data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). They were sent to the RKI the day before the specified date. This makes them the most recent comparable values that we can access automatically. They are not as up to date as the numbers that the circles publish on their pages. Therefore, the information may vary slightly from each other. To see the values in the circles, move your mouse over the districts (desktop) or tap the corresponding circle (smartphone and tablet):

What these numbers say and what they don’t

State government statistics show how many confirmed corona infections are known to the country’s authorities and have been reported via the intended route. What the statistics cannot show clearly, and certainly not to this day, is the speed at which the virus is spreading. Because the number of people who have recently tested positive also often includes cases reported several days later. There are delays in the reporting chain, especially during weekends and holidays.
