After a corona outbreak at a meat processing company in Hatten, the company is due to shut down temporarily starting tomorrow. According to the responsible Oldenburg district, routine tests at the company revealed 14 infections. Seven affected people live in the Oldenburg district, seven more in the city of Oldenburg. “The number of infections is high compared to the entire workforce of about 140 people,” said District Administrator Carsten Harings (independent).
Production is suspended for two weeks.
A 14-day quarantine was imposed on all employees because separation of employees is not possible due to overlapping work hours and spatial conditions, according to district administrator Harings. This means that the operations are inactive during this time. Only meat products that are still in stock during the production process need to be processed in one shift until Monday. For this work that has not yet been done, a small part of the workforce receives a so-called work quarantine, that is, those affected can only leave home quarantine during the specified work and the necessary period of time.

Virus brought by returnees?
It is not yet clear how the outbreak occurred, according to the district, as the exact routes of infection have yet to be finally determined. There are indications of returning travelers, this is currently under review. The outbreak in Hatten is not the first in a meat processing company in Lower Saxony. There had already been several outbreaks in the meat companies in spring, including in Dissen in the Osnabrück district.
