Was there ever a time when the newspapers talked about the “sexy lips” of a scientist? Have people previously tattooed the face of an epidemiologist on their arm? Was there such a thing: that an angry crowd at a campaign rally claimed the head of a senior investigator?
When was the last time scientists were publicly cursed, insulted, and insulted? And at the same time: celebrated, praised, adored?
The new coronavirus has changed the world, including that of science. He draws researchers from his laboratories around the world to the spotlight; many also go there voluntarily. Their work is analyzed in detail, their results and evaluations are consulted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on social networks, they are searched around the world, they are dissected and discussed.
Researchers are now negotiated and treated like politicians. Because they seem as powerful as politicians. They are not used to that.
Critics already see a virocracy looming, an expert rule that locks people up in house jail for months. Investigators have to defend themselves against the accusation of whispering school closings and other measures, which destroy the economy and the common good, to politicians behind the scenes.
