Geisel repeats criticism of the demonstration
Berlin Interior Senator Andreas Geisel (SPD) described the events of the protests against the crown restrictions in Berlin as predictable. “It was to be expected what happened today,” he said Saturday night at the ARD “Tagesthemen.” Most of the time the rules of distance were not observed, the demonstration had to be broken. In some parts of the city there were clashes with the police. Geisel had banned the protests beforehand, but the courts overturned the decision.
Geisel went on to say that he was of the opinion “that I must have a clear political position.” Because people who criticized the government’s individual decisions regarding Corona would not have met on Saturday, but rather “have doubts about our basic free democratic order as a whole and want to attack it.” People are radicalized. She does not believe “that it will serve democracy if we crouch down and show no attitude.”
