Corona demo planned: the caravan on the way to Leipzig slowed down
Leipzig police are preparing for a large-scale operation: Corsican cars are pouring into the city from various locations in eastern Germany to demonstrate against Corona’s measures. In November, a “lateral thinker” demonstration got out of hand here.
SSince noon, critics of the Saxon and Saxony-Anhalt crown measures have been in Corsicans on their way to Leipzig. However, according to the police, the number of participants was significantly lower than expected.
Several counter-demonstrations have been announced in Leipzig; the police have prepared for a large-scale operation. For example, I was in an armored car at the fair, where there is a vaccination center.
In Limbach-Oberfrohna (Zwickau district), around 100 people gathered in the morning, according to the Zwickau police department. On the contrary, the organizer canceled a parade that was supposed to start in Plauen for personal reasons. For this, the authority of the assembly had advised about 200 participants.
The first conductors also met in Dresden; the parade was supposed to start there at noon. Three caravans from Saxony-Anhalt wanted to reach Leipzig; According to information from the local situation center, around 300 vehicles were registered, including from Naumburg.
In Halle, 100 people prevented the vehicles from gathering in the city area, some of them by force, as announced by a Halle police spokeswoman. “The formation of a column of vehicles did not take place.” So some motorists would have joined a parade from Merseburg (Saalekreis), others “certainly also individually” on the way to Leipzig, he said.
The police had taken “action” against the counter-protesters and a helicopter was also being used. Property damage has occurred on both sides, he said.
In Leipzig, an alliance of associations, initiatives, parties and unions wants to oppose opponents of the Crown’s rules. Among other things, the counter-protest announced a rally with 1000 participants at Augustusplatz, as well as several bicycle and vehicle parades under the slogan “slow lateral thinking”.
Bad memories of November
Since then, an originally planned rally in the “lateral thinking” environment at the New Leipzig Fair with more than 1000 registered cars has been canceled. Therefore, the counter-protesters fear that opponents of Corona’s measures may again attack the ring in the center of the city.
There, tens of thousands of supporters of the movement broke through police barriers on November 7, 2020 and marched around the ring without permission and without respecting Corona rules. Several policemen and journalists were attacked and some were injured. There were several arrests.
