WDue to the sharp increase in corona infections, most shops, as well as all restaurants and bars in Berlin, will have to close from 11 pm to 6 am in the future. The Senate on Tuesday decided on a night curfew, as announced in Berlin by Berlin Mayor Michael Müller (SPD).
Under the Senate decision, exceptions are provided for gas stations, but they are no longer allowed to sell alcohol at night. Pharmacies are also excluded. The “Tagesspiegel” had previously reported on the plans.
Also, from 11 pm to 6 am, only five people from different households or people from two households will be able to meet. Also, only a maximum of 10 people instead of the 25 above should be able to participate in private celebrations in closed rooms.
The measures are mainly aimed at private celebrations and illegal parties, which the Berlin authorities see as the drivers of the infection process. They must apply beginning Saturday, and are initially limited to October 31.
Only since last Saturday have new restrictions been put in place in Berlin, which the Senate decided last week: Private outdoor celebrations with more than 50 participants have since been banned. There is a maximum limit of 25 participants in closed rooms. The requirement for masks in office buildings is also new.
Despite these resolutions, Berlin remained under pressure due to the rapidly increasing number of infections. Several times, representatives of the federal government publicly called on the city to do more to combat the corona pandemic and enforce the rules, most recently Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU).
Corona’s traffic light shows double red
On Tuesday, Berlin’s traffic light system to assess the status of the crown changed to double red. The number of new infections in relation to the number of inhabitants in the last seven days and the number of reproductions are now above the limit values defined as critical. That comes from the health administration’s online status report Tuesday. The traffic light is now doubly red. In this case, the Senate had agreed that measures should be implemented.
Corona’s traffic light takes into account three indicators: the number of reproductions (R-value for short), the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days, and the use of intensive care beds with Covid 19 patients. have defined limit values for each criterion: If they are exceeded at least three times in a row, the corresponding traffic light changes to yellow or red.
The traffic light has now jumped to red with the replay number, with a value of 1.26. This means that one infected person infects more than another. To stop the pandemic, the value should be less than 1. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days has reached 44.2. In the inner-city districts, the values are significantly higher than in the suburbs, with Neukölln standing out especially with 87.3.
