Suburb – Horror accident on the Cologne motorway ring. On the A3 in the direction of Oberhausen, a car was hit by a noise barrier wall block weighing several tons. Polo’s driver died at the scene of the accident.

The accident occurred on Friday around 10.15am under a bridge near the Cologne-Dellbrück exit. According to previous findings, a concrete slab weighing about five tons came loose from a noise barrier and crashed into a passing car; a police spokesman confirmed this to BILD.

Large numbers of firefighters and police officers are still at the scene of the accident at noon. The A3 in the direction of Leverkusen is completely closed until further notice. It’s unclear how long, the spokesman said at noon. A mile-long traffic jam formed on the highway.

Traffic on tram lines 3, 13, 18 to and from Cologne-Holweide has also been blocked.

The fire brigade was able to lift the heavy plate with a crane at lunchtime Friday, move the car and retrieve the body, emergency services said.
