Suburb – Cologne terror alert! Bomb found on the train!

On Saturday night, a cleaner made a shocking discovery at the Cologne-Deutzerfeld train station: there was a bomb in the carriage of a regional train. It is said that it was hidden in a box.

The explosive dogs of the alerted federal police immediately attacked the place. The box was X-rayed by special forces and the self-made explosive device was eventually rendered harmless by the defuser at the scene.

According to the police, it is a so-called “unconventional explosive and incendiary device”, according to BILD information it consisted of a match, fireworks, black powder bullets, nails and screws.

According to the initial investigations, the “auto-laboratory” could be implemented and the splinter effect could have caused the most serious injuries to the passengers who were in the compartment.

The crime scene group of the State Criminal Police Office is on site and laboriously secures the tracks, and the other 27 trains parked there at the depot are searched. Based on information from BILD, it is not yet clear whether this is an attempted terrorist attack or a threat or blackmail.

The affected regional train traveled from Gummersbach to Cologne on Friday. Anyone who has observed something suspicious must urgently report it to the police.

The approach taken by the author (s) is still unclear: it could be that the explosive device was only deposited at the terminal at night to detonate it with great symbolic power the next day, the day of German unity.

But it is also possible that the bomb was already planted on Friday’s trip on the regional train and fortunately did not ignite, so it was only found by the cleaning team at night.

If it really is an attempted terrorist attack, state security experts consider possible a radical right-wing background as well as Islamist. The investigation is still in its infancy.
