Suburb –

A driver was killed on Friday morning on Autobahn 3 in Cologne from falling off a concrete wall. According to initial information, a part of the lining of an acoustic protection wall weighing up to five tons came loose and fell head-on onto the woman’s car. She was dead. “We have to assume that an enormous amount of energy went into the car,” said a police spokesman.

Firefighters and police are investigating the crash site on the A3 on Friday morning near Cologne.

Other parts of the noise protection wall are currently being examined, and the recovery of the body and the car will begin at the same time.

A3 partially blocked – KVB lines also affected

The A3 is completely closed between the Köln-Ost motorway junction and the Köln-Dellbrück junction in the direction of Oberhausen. Previously, only congested traffic was allowed through.

The Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe (KVB) railways were also affected by the accident and closure. The trams on lines 3, 13 and 18 currently run irregularly. Currently, line 3 only runs between Görlinger Zentrum and Frankfurter Straße or Thielenbruch and Vischeringstraße. Line 13 only runs between Sülzgürtel and Buchheim-Herler Straße and line 18 only between Klettenberg and Buchheim-Herler Straße. The KVB is currently establishing a track replacement service.

It is not yet clear when the lock on the A3 will be lifted. Police recommend choosing a different route if possible. (hol / mab)
