Cologne: collapsed house in explosion in Buchheim – missing person

An explosion occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the Buchheim district of Cologne. According to the local fire brigade, a semi-detached house on Wichheimer Straße should have collapsed. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

“We currently have four slightly injured people and unfortunately we assume that one person will still be missing in the rubble because we currently have no information on this person’s whereabouts,” said fire chief Christian Miller. The house collapsed completely, the neighboring houses suffered serious damage.

The missing person is currently assumed to be a man registered as a single person in the home. Firefighters are currently searching for debris for the person. “We have the fire under control, but the fire is not extinguished. We still have fires that have developed from the basement to the top,” said Miller.

The Cologne fire brigade and police forces are on site.

The area around the house was extensively cordoned off. Some of the debris has flown several hundred meters. There is a lot of rubble in front of the house and on the street. Large clouds of smoke also form. (hol / kle)
