Corona infections in the Cloppenburg district have risen further and exceeded the seven-day limit for the first time. On Friday, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs reported 61.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days for the district. From a value of 50, the municipality is obliged to intensify protection measures against infection. From Thursday to Friday alone, 28 new infections were added; the number of those currently infected has risen to more than 130. The district wants to comment on the drastic increase today at 2 pm
Half of those infected live in Löningen
The number of infections in the Cloppenburg district has risen alarmingly for a week. Outbreaks occur in different places: in companies, schools, kindergartens, sports clubs, and nursing homes. Following contacts and finding connections there is difficult, depending on the district. The small town of Löningen, where more than half of all infected people live, is particularly affected, as reported by NDR 1 Lower Saxony. Last week, ten players and a coach from the SV Evenkamp football club tested positive for the virus there.
Many students do not wear a mask on the bus.
The district sees a weak spot in school bus traffic. Older students, in particular, often did not meet the mask requirement. A district spokesperson made this clear using the example of a schoolboy demonstratively waving her mask at police officers at a bus checkpoint. Even parents who take their children to the bus often don’t wear masks at stops, she said. Therefore, the district wants to monitor more closely and no longer just admonish violations, but also impose fines on students.
No overnight stay for Cloppenburgers starting tomorrow?
The district’s declaration as a kind of risk zone depends on the figures released by the Robert Koch Institute at midnight. If Cloppenburg is still over 50 years old with the seven-day incidence, an overnight ban will apply to people from the district in nine federal states as of tomorrow.
