The next big city exceeds the critical threshold for new infections. In Stuttgart, residents now have to adapt to stricter measures. Among other things, a curfew and mask requirement is envisaged in the city center.
In the corona pandemic, Stuttgart exceeded the important warning level of 50 new infections per 100,000 residents in seven days. The state capital gave the value of the metropolis of 600,000 inhabitants with 50.5. Now the intervention level is reached. As of Saturday, 82 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours.
According to more information from the city, among other things, a curfew, a mask requirement in the city center and restrictions on alcohol consumption are being prepared. The measures will not take effect immediately. The curfew must be introduced legally clean, a city spokesman said.
Private meetings with more than 25 participants are already prohibited in Stuttgart. Mayor Fritz Kuhn said he was concerned about the growing number of infections and the increasingly widespread contagion. “That is why we are acting now: purposefully and appropriately.” He is reminded of the situation in March of this year. It is about maintaining public life as much as possible.
The city is also encouraging people to work from home, wants to decouple the start of lessons in schools and expand the use of masks in the city hall. Until now, the Esslingen district has been Corona’s “hotspot” in Baden-Württemberg. On Friday the critical value was 56.3. In Esslingen, mouth and nose protection should be worn in public places.
