Bloody Knife Attack in Northeast China!

State media reported that seven people were killed in a massacre in Kaiyuan, Liaoning province. The state news agency Xinhua reported, citing police, that the alleged perpetrator apparently arbitrarily stabbed bystanders in front of a sauna on Sunday morning.

Seven other people were injured. Later, the police were able to arrest the attacker in a bathhouse.

On Monday, state media released the first background information on the perpetrator. State television station CCTV reported Monday that the man was “paranoid” and full of hatred for society.

According to CCTV, the man stabbed bystanders for several minutes, apparently indiscriminately, before he could be arrested. Therefore, the author is a 62-year-old resident of Kaiyuan who lost his son and whose wife had separated from him.

He was “antisocial and eccentric”, suffered from delusions and had a deep resentment against society, the station reported. However, the background investigation continued.

Arbitrary knife attacks are relatively common in China, where firearms are prohibited to civilians. They are often committed by angry citizens who see themselves as victims of injustice and want revenge on society.
