Chemnitz Mayor Elections: The Count Is Over! Schulze wins the first vote
Chemnitz – The people of Chemnitz have chosen: Who will be the successor of Barbara ludwig (58, SPD)? TAG24 live reports.
Nine candidates were available, they fought for the city chief’s chair!
At 7:55 p.m., the final (preliminary) result was clear: Sven Schulze (SPD, 48) won the first round of the OB elections with just under 23.06 percent, followed by Almut Patt (51, CDU) with 21.39 percent.
The turnout was 49.71 percent.

Since neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, there will be a second ballot on October 11.

Update, 6:50 pm: According to an estimate by the local election official, turnout is around 55 percent (including 18 percent of the postal vote), which would be 15 percent more than in 2013.

Update, 12:58 pm: As the city of Chemnitz announced on Sunday afternoon, turnout is currently around 18 percent (at 12pm).
As of Saturday afternoon, 18 percent of those eligible to vote had already participated in the vote by mail.
196,000 people from Chemnitz can vote
Update, 9 am: Around 196,000 people from Chemnitz can vote for the new mayor of Chemnitz for the next seven years.
If neither candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote today, there will be a second ballot on October 11. A simple majority is enough.

About 38,000 people from Chemnitz have already cast their vote by mail (as of September 14). All other eligible voters are called on Sunday to put their crosses at the polling station around the corner.
