Chemnitz Mayor Election: All Votes Counted! Schulze clearly wins
Chemnitz – Chemnitz has chosen! In the second round of the Chemnitz mayoral election, the SPD candidate Sven Schulze (48) won with 34.88 percent.
Five candidates were still in the running, fighting for the position of city chief! Sven Schulze won the OB election by a clear margin. Almut Patt came in second with 22.03 percent of the vote.
The following candidates ran for the second ballot (Order as on the ballot):
- Almut Patt (51, CDU)
- Ulrich Oehme (60, AfD)
- Susanne Schaper (42, left)
- Sven Schulze (SPD, 48 years old)
- Lars Faßmann (42 years old, independent)
In the first vote on September 20, Sven Schulze (SPD, 48) also won with 23.06 percent. Closely followed by Almut Patt (51, CDU) with 21.39 percent.

Update, 7.15 pm.: Barbara Ludwig (58, SPD) has arrived at the town hall. He congratulated Sven Schulze on the result. “I’m happy that the people of Chemnitz voted,” Ludwig said: “There was a lot involved.

First projection of electoral participation
Update, 6.30 pm.: The electoral supervisor made an initial projection of electoral participation: 49 percent. For comparison: in 2013 it was 31.75 percent on the second ballot

Update, 6.15 pm.: So far none of the OB candidates have made it to the town hall. Current Mayor Barbara Ludwig (58, SPD) has also stayed away from the public event until now. According to city spokesman Matthias Nowak, his visit is not planned.
Polling stations close, the count begins

But everything is open! Because just under half of Chemnitz residents cast their vote on the first ballot. Now those who did not vote in the first ballot could tip the balance. So it’s still exciting!
