Federal Chancellor Heiko Maas (SPD) went into quarantine for the second time in a few weeks due to contact with a person infected with corona. The Foreign Ministry announced that a first corona test was negative on Wednesday. Maas will again isolate himself in a house in Brandenburg.

The contact took place on Monday night with a “participant from a foreign delegation.” The Minister of State Michael Roth was also present, the rules of distance and hygiene were observed in the meeting.

The Foreign Ministry was only informed about the positive test from the contact person on Wednesday. In the morning, Maas attended a cabinet meeting. However, a joint press conference with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias was canceled at noon.

Quarantined in September

Maas had only been quarantined for eleven days at the end of September because one of his bodyguards had become infected. Less than five weeks have passed since the self-isolation ended.

In recent months, members of the Federal Cabinet have been repeatedly quarantined. Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) was the first member of the government to be shown to be infected with the corona virus two weeks ago. He had been tested for cold symptoms shortly after a cabinet meeting.

The federal cabinet has not yet had to be quarantined. At that time, reference was made to the rules of hygiene and distance in the cabinet room, which did not oblige to quarantine others or even all participants in such a case, he said at the time.
