“Certainly new measures”
Spahn: early closure ends unrealistic

Will social life resume after January 10? The chances are bad, warns Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn, agreeing that the crown’s comprehensive restrictions will be at least partially extended even after the deadline expires.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn believes that lifting all crown restrictions after January 10 is unrealistic. “As of today, the numbers are far from where we need to go,” Spahn said of new corona infections in an interview with ARD “Tagesthemen.” Therefore, after January 10 there will be “measures without a doubt”.

“To what extent do we have to decide with the federal states in early January,” Spahn added. It is foreseeable, however, that the figures will not be so low by then “that we can simply go back to pre-lockdown mode. I don’t see that,” the minister said.

Regarding the problems of making appointments for the corona vaccination, Spahn said that at first, the waiting times on the phone lines “unfortunately could not be avoided.” I could only ask for your understanding and patience in the face of the vaccine shortage. Since each federal state has a different system for making appointments, there is “a bit of federal confusion.” That will work early next year.

Spahn also responded to the impression that the rest of the world had significantly more vaccine doses than Germany. “We all started in lean conditions,” he said.

Several prime ministers of the federal states have also expressed doubts about the end of the shutdown after January 10. On January 5, the country’s leaders want to discuss with Chancellor Angela Merkel whether the protection measures of the crown should be extended beyond January 10. A stricter lockdown has been in place in Germany since December 16.
