Palmer apologizes for false statements

The Tübingen model with its anti-corona strategy is becoming a model for other cities to follow, but now there are setbacks. When it comes to the number of people infected in nursing homes, the district office is going through the cracks in some cases – Mayor Palmer cites a data breach as the reason.

Tübingen Mayor Boris Palmer is making his way into the corona pandemic in his city of around 90,000 inhabitants, including special protection measures for the elderly. The 48-year-old man proudly emphasized in an interview with the “Tagesspiegel” last Wednesday that Tübingen no longer had any cases among those over 75. A statement that, as it now turns out, was only valid for one day.

At the group home, a facility in Altenhilfe Tübingen, six residents and four nurses have been infected since Thursday. A total of three care centers in Tübingen are affected by cases of infection, as announced by Mayor Boris Palmer. “Although there were multiple infections among the nursing staff, the barrier that we established with regular rapid tests remained in most cases. Unfortunately, the network was not tight enough because we could not make the tests mandatory,” he said Palmer.

Palmer now has to review his statement in the “Tagesspiegel” interview. In two weeks, the district office found six infected people in the age group over 75 who did not appear in the urban assessment of quarantine orders, he said. This was not deliberate misinformation, but there were problems with the data transmission. “I apologize for making an incorrect statement at this time.”

In addition to the community center, a resident who had recently been discharged from a clinic in Tübingen also contracted an infection at Pauline Krone’s home. Altenhilfe Tübingen had all residents and employees tested immediately, so far with negative results, Palmer said. The living room was closed, visits to other living areas are only possible after a quick test. More cases were recorded in a private care facility: 19 residents and seven employees had tested positive for the corona virus. The house has issued a visitation ban.

Palmer and data protection

In early September, Tübingen introduced periodic corona tests for the staff of nursing homes and nursing homes. This protection concept was aimed at preventing the virus from infiltrating the premises.

Palmer also campaigned to loosen data protection requirements for the Corona warning app. “We have to get out of this data protection cult,” said the green politician on Sunday night in a live chat with the “Bild” newspaper. It is about “putting together” the application and significantly increasing its effectiveness. “Otherwise, we will not come out of this hibernation.” To do this, one must finally be able to access more data on the cell phone.
