In the first round of the mayoral elections in Chemnitz and Zwickau, neither candidate achieved the required absolute majority. In the second vote on October 11, a relative majority in both cities will decide who will be the new city chief in the future.

In Chemnitz, Volkmar Zschocke (Bündnis90 / Verdes), Paul Vogel (Die Party) and Matthias Eberlein (Free Voters) withdrew their candidacy in recent days. On Friday night it became known that Martin Kohlmann (Pro Chemnitz) will not compete anymore either.

While Volkmar Zschocke has declared his support for Susanne Schaper (Die Linke), Matthias Eberlein asks his voters to vote for Lars Faßmann, who is not a party of the party, on the second ballot. Paul Vogel has not pledged his support for any of the candidates.

These candidates run on the second ballot:

  • Sven Schulze (SPD)
  • Almut Patt (CDU)
  • Susanne Schaper (Left)
  • Ulrich Oehme (AfD)
  • Lars Faßmann (independent)
