Cancellation of accommodation ban in Baden-Württemberg and Saxony – politics

The controversial accommodation ban has been suspended in two federal states, at least temporarily! Baden-Württemberg and Saxony lifted the ban on Thursday.

In Baden-Württemberg, the administrative court granted an urgent motion against the accommodation ban. So far, this applies to guests in German regions where 50 or more new cases of corona were recorded per 100,000 inhabitants in 7 days.

The applicants come from the Recklinghausen district in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is above this mark. He had booked a vacation in the Ravensburg district.

The accommodation ban is temporarily suspended in Baden-Württemberg with immediate effect, as the court announced Thursday in Mannheim. However, appeals can still be filed.

The court considered the reduction of the fundamental right to freedom of movement disproportionate. The country also failed to prove that hotels and pensions are the “drivers” of the infection, so drastic measures are necessary.

It is also unreasonable for applicants to submit negative corona tests conducted up to 48 hours prior to arrival. There was no guarantee that travelers would be able to get a corona test in such a short time.

In Saxony, the state government lifted the ban. This was announced by Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) after a conversation with district administrators and mayors of the Free State. The regulation should apply from Saturday.

Kretschmer had already said on Wednesday before the meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and state leaders in Berlin that he did not consider the ban appropriate. In Saxony it had been in force since June. It is not provided because “people who have nothing to do with disease are beaten,” he said Thursday.

“So we will no longer have that ban in the fall holidays,” said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD). At the same time, he appealed to follow the rules.
