1000 people are caught in flames in a camp in California. Hundreds of emergency services are trying to get the campers to safety. For three weeks, forests have been burning in the US state.

In California, about 1,000 people are caught in wildfires at a campground. According to media reports, the only access road to the area in a Sierra Nevada national park is not passable. Fire brigades and fire trucks are on duty to restore access to the area.

“Save in the warehouse if necessary”

As reported by “The Fresno Bee” newspaper, the national park administration instructed campers threatened by the flames to escape into the water of the Mammoth Pool Reservoir if necessary. At least 63 people have been rescued with the help of military helicopters, including twelve injured, as the local fire department in Fresno announced on Twitter.

Lightning caused many fires

According to the fire department management report, just under 12,500 emergency services were recently employed to contain more than 20 major fires. Since the lightning that started the first fires in mid-August, more than 900 fires have occurred.

6000 square kilometers of land have caught fire. So far at least eight people have died. Almost 3,300 buildings were reported to have been destroyed. More than 10,500 people are still unable to return home.

“Spend as little time outdoors as possible”

The two largest fires recently occurred near San Francisco. The fire department asked residents of affected regions in the state to spend as little time outdoors as possible due to rising temperatures. New fires could easily start in current weather conditions.
