The head of the Federal Environment Agency, Dirk Messner, and the head of CSU, Markus Söder, want to ban cars with internal combustion engines from 2035. “California has shown the way,” Messner told the newspapers of the Funke media group. “I think that the ban on new registrations for diesel and gasoline engines from 2035 is a good idea.”
Söder told the CSU party congress on Saturday: “I am very much in favor of setting an end date from the point where fossil fuel fossil burners can no longer be approved.” And also: “What was in California seems like a very good date for it.”
The most populous state of California in the U.S. wants to drastically reduce car emissions and only allow new emission-free vehicles starting in 2035, Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday. So gasoline and diesel should slowly disappear.
During a transitional period and in view of the Corona crisis, the Prime Minister of Bavaria, Söder, renewed his call for a voucher for the purchase of cars or the like for the most modern combustion engines: an incentive system, a Recycling or a trade-in voucher could be used in a few years when buying an even more modern car. . Messner, on the other hand, emphasized: “We don’t need heavy SUVs and off-road vehicles in our cities, but smaller, cheaper, zero-emissions cars in the future.”
Green parliamentary group MP Oliver Krischer said of the Bavarian Prime Minister’s initiative: “We welcome Markus Söder’s change of mind on the end of the internal combustion engine. That is a gain in knowledge that we hardly expected. Criticism of the idea came from the FDP. The party’s first parliamentary managing director, Marco Buschmann, tweeted: “First I want to score points with automakers with purchase premiums for combustion engines, but then demand a production ban.
