The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state government is reacting to the persistently high number of corona infections. Protection measures will be tightened, as announced by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD).
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is trying to curb the spread of the corona virus with tougher measures. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schwesig. “Now we are fine-tuning,” Schwesig said after consultations with the cabinet on Tuesday in Schwerin. “If possible, everyone should give up new contacts,” the prime minister said. “We are facing a second violent wave.”
Mask requirement in public places
“We adhere to strict contact rules,” explained Schwesig. In addition, a maximum of five people from two households is allowed to meet. In addition, all rural districts and urban districts should extend the obligation to cover the face and nose to public places. Municipalities have to name where they are.
School and daycare closures with increasing numbers of infections
Also, visiting regulations for nursing homes and nursing homes are restricted. In the future, only one visitor per day per resident of the retirement home will be allowed. The measurements must be accompanied by antigen and, if necessary, PCR tests, as Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) said. The facilities are still driving the infection process, it is said to justify it. Schools and nurseries must remain open. But when the number of infections increases, a closure is necessary, Schwesig said.

One week of distance learning from the seventh grade
After the Christmas holidays, everything possible should be done in the first week to ensure that no more infections are brought to schools, as explained by the Minister of Education, Bettina Martín (SPD). Therefore, from January 4 to 8 there will be distance classes for seventh graders in all schools. For students in grades 1-6, face-to-face lessons remain. However, teachers in these classes must wear masks.
No more alcohol in public
Serving alcoholic beverages in public is prohibited. This is to prevent long lines from forming in front of mulled wine dispensing stations, for example. This regulation, as well as the requirement for extended masks and visiting restrictions, applies with the publication of the new state ordinance. The cabinet also adopted a so-called hotspot strategy, whereby districts can issue stricter measures, such as curfews in individual areas of government with a seven-day incidence value of more than 200.
State police want to tighten controls
Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU) announced that state police would increasingly verify compliance with crown protection measures on December 12 and 19, the long shopping Sundays before Christmas, and from 21 to December 23th. At the border with Poland, entry and exit controls would be carried out on the days mentioned. According to Renz, the focus is on “reduced border traffic”, that is, trips to Poland for shopping, for example. But also in the interior of the country, the state police want to intervene more intensely in the future, for example, by enforcing strict entry and residence regulations during Christmas and New Years. So only members of the nuclear family from other federal states can visit and stay for a maximum of three days.
New consultations in mid-December
The state government wants the additional procedure to depend on the development of the infection process. Another meeting of the so-called MV summit is scheduled for December 15, at which a decision will be made.
