Verdi calls for a new BVG strike on Friday
The union calls for a new strike at BVG. Friday should last all day.

Sedan. Verdi’s union called a warning strike again at the Berlin transport company (BVG) on Friday. Unlike the previous warning strike, this should last all day. The strike is expected to begin at 3 am and end on Saturday, October 10, also at 3 am The union announced Tuesday afternoon.
All BVG operating areas are affected: metro, tram and bus, continues Verdi. Once again, the Berlin S-Bahn and bus routes assigned to private bus companies are not affected.
There are also plans for a strike in Brandenburg, which will affect the Potsdam transport company Regiobus Potsdam-Mittelmark, the Havelbus transport company and the Havel transport company. At all other Brandenburg transport companies, operations are expected to proceed normally.
Even after last Tuesday’s warning strike (September 29, 2020), the employers’ side was not ready to negotiate a national collective agreement, Verdi said. It’s about working conditions. The union requires uniform regulations at the national level on issues such as the promotion of young talent, the relief and compensation of overtime and shift assignments.

The BVG harshly criticized the warning strike. Only trips operated by private companies can be offered. There are 23 daytime bus routes and 23 nighttime routes. Four more lines would operate with restrictions.

The Berlin passenger association IGEB has expressed its understanding for the warning strikes that have been announced. “Of course that’s more than annoying,” said interest group vice chairman for railways, local transport and passenger affairs, Jens Wieseke, the German news agency. “But there are also reasons why people are on strike.”
